I think I wrote this song back in 1993. It chronicles my various run-ins with the man for being young, dumb, and behind the wheel during the height of the war on drugs in LA. I wasn’t doing anything terrible, mind you. Still, I was getting constantly harassed by the cops and handed tickets that ended up with me losing my drivers' license and becoming a bonafide criminal at the age of 19. After losing my license and continuing to drive, I spent nights at the station, washed buses as community service for a year, and had to show to a ridiculous number of court dates while dragging my poor mother through it all. In the end, I was lucky enough to realize that I had to give into the system and got through it. I often wonder how many other dumb kids weren’t lucky enough to have the support I had and got sucked into the jail system with no second chance. It was a bummer back then, but I turned the experience into a pretty good rocker.
